1.
'Twas on that night when doomed to know the eager rage of every foe, that night in which he was betrayed, the Savior of the world took bread. And after thanks and glory given to him that rules in earth and heaven, that symbol of his flesh he broke, and thus to all his follewers spoke: "My broken body thus I give for you, for all. Take, eat, and live. And oft the sacred rite renew that brings my saving love to view." Then in his hands the cup he raised, and God anew he thanked and praised, while kindness in his bosom glowed, and from his lips salvation flowed. "My blood I thus pour forth," he cries, "to cleanse the soul in sin that lies; in this the covenant is sealed, and heaven's eternal grace revealed. "With love to man this cup is fraught; let all partake the sacred draught; through latest ages let it pour, in memory of my dying hour."
2.
Tell me the story of Jesus, write on my heart every word; tell me the story most precious, sweetest that ever was heard. Tell how the angels, in chorus, sang as they welcomed his birth, "Glory to God in the highest! Peace and good tidings to earth." REFRAIN: Tell me the story of Jesus, write on my heart every word; tell me the story most precious, sweetest that ever was heard. Fasting alone in the desert, tell of the days that are past; how for our sins he was tempted, yet was triumphant at last. Tell of the years of his labor, tell of the sorrow he bore; He was despised and afflicted, homeless, rejected, and poor. Tell of the cross where they nailed him, writhing in anguish and pain; tell of the grave where they laid him, tell how he liveth again. Love in that story so tender, clearer than ever I see: stay, let me weep while you whisper: love paid the ransom for me.
3.
Glory be to Jesus, who, in bitter pains, poured for me the lifeblood from his sacred veins! Grace and life eternal in that blood I find; blest be his compassion, infinitely kind! Blest through endless ages be the precious stream which from endless torments did the world redeem! Oft as earth exulting wafts its praise on high, angel hosts rejoicing make their glad reply. Lift we, then, our voices, swell the mighty flood, louder still and louder praise the precious blood!
